Words & Music by Lindy Hearne
A song Lindy started writing about our last two doggies and how they loved to howl with the coyotes at night... (we had up to six rescue dogs, but had the bittersweet job of finding them loving homes when we started touring full time back in 2009). BUT then the song took a left turn, and became a poignant song about us.

When They Sing
Words & Music by Lindy Hearne

They lie around the yard with nothing much to do.
Barely move a muscle 'til they hear a sound or two.
Some say they're worthless mutts. Dumb as they can be.
Sniffin' round the ground. Lookin' for a tree.

But sometimes there’s a special night. They look up to the skies.
Then it starts to happen. The moon is in their eyes...

When they sing -- it sends them back
To another place in time -- they were young and full of life.
Now they dream. It's hard remembering.
But their song it won’t let go,
So they let their spirits show when they sing …

They hang around the home with nothing much to say.
Barely move a muscle 'til the next meal comes their way.
They used to sing together. Their harmonies were gold.
The prime of their lives. Then they just got old.

But sometimes there’s a special light. It comes as a surprise.
He takes her hand in his. She looks into his eyes... (Chorus)

They think of their two dogs.
The forest and the frogs.
The garden and the lake.
They've learned to give and take.
As a husband and a wife,
They have a real good life! (Chorus)
